On the sidelines of an event, he said, ‘Rs 2,000 notes are coming back and only Rs 10,000 crore are left in the system. Hopefully this amount will also be returned. Earlier this month, Das had said that 87 per cent of the withdrawn Rs 2,000 notes have returned as deposits in banks, while the rest have been exchanged over the counters.

Let us tell you that on May 19, the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) surprised the financial world when it announced its plan to phase out the Rs 2,000 note.

Those who had Rs 2000 notes were asked to exchange them or deposit them in bank accounts by September 30. Later the last date was extended till October 7. On 7 October, both deposit and exchange services at bank branches were stopped.

Where can I deposit or exchange now?

From October 8, people are able to exchange currency at 19 locations of the Reserve Bank of India. Or if they want to deposit the amount in their account then that is also possible.

Individuals or entities can exchange Rs 2,000 bank notes up to a limit of Rs 20,000 at a time in 19 RBI offices. However, there was no limit on the total amount for depositing Rs 2,000 notes in bank accounts.
