2000 Rupee Note Exchange Deadline: In a big relief on Saturday, the Reserve Bank of India has extended the deadline for exchanging 2000 rupee notes. Those who have not yet exchanged Rs 2000 notes can do this till October 7, 2023. In such a situation, people have now got an additional time of one week. Earlier this deadline was ending on 30th September i.e. Saturday.
Notes can be changed till October 7
According to the information given by the Reserve Bank, from October 8, common people will not be able to exchange Rs 2000 notes in banks and post offices. However, even after this, these notes will remain in circulation and you will be able to exchange them only in the RBI office. In such a situation, to avoid this problem, you should complete this work before the deadline ends.
What will happen to the notes after the deadline?
The Reserve Bank of India has made it clear that even after the deadline of October 7, customers will have the opportunity to exchange these notes. Customers will not be able to exchange Rs 2000 notes in banks and post offices, but you can definitely exchange it in 19 issue offices of RBI located across the country. In these offices only notes of value up to Rs 20,000 can be exchanged at a time. For this you will also have to submit an ID proof. Along with this, the Central Bank has made it clear that even after the expiry of the deadline for exchanging Rs 2000 notes, these notes will remain legal tender.
So many notes have returned to the banking system-
It is worth noting that on May 19, 2023, the Reserve Bank had announced the withdrawal of Rs 2000 notes. According to the data released by the bank, till May 19, notes worth Rs 3.56 lakh crore were in circulation across the country. By September 29, 2023, a total of Rs 2000 notes worth Rs 3.42 lakh crore have returned to the banking system. There is still Rs 14,000 crore left to return.
You can also send money through post
RBI has also informed on Saturday that for the convenience of customers, Rs 2000 notes can also be sent through post to 19 issue offices of the Reserve Bank. This money will later be deposited in the customer’s account. Along with this, it will be mandatory to send an ID proof.
