If this amount is not returned to the banks, will the Rs 2000 notes become junk? Questions are coming in the minds of people that RBI will again give a chance to the people and extend the time for depositing them or will the legal tender of Rs 2000 notes end? Today we are going to give you the answers to all these questions arising in the minds of the general public in this article.

Let us tell you that Rs 2000 notes were circulating in the market on behalf of the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) till May 19, 2023 and after that the government banned them. At that time, assets worth Rs 3.96 lakh crore were present in the Indian market in the form of 2000 Rupees Notes.

Out of which, till September 29, 96% amount has been returned to RBI but still 4% amount is yet to come. This means that till now Rs 14 thousand crores have not been returned to RBI. The last date for this was 30th September but RBI has extended it till 7th October. Apart from this, RBI has said that apart from bank branches, these notes can also be deposited in RBI offices.

These are the answers to the questions

Let us tell you that till October 7, you can exchange Rs 2000 notes in the regional offices of RBI. You can exchange only 10 notes at a time. But let us tell you that from October 8, neither the banks nor the RBI will withdraw Rs 2000 notes nor will they exchange them.

If you want, you can send Rs. 2000 to the regional offices of RBI by post after October 7. To deposit or exchange Rs 2000 notes, relevant identity documents will have to be shown as per RBI or government rules and charges may also be taken by RBI.
