Employees’ State Insurance Corporation (ESIC) and Employees Provident Fund Organization (EPFO) have released the latest employment figures. It is known from these figures that in the month of January this year, more than 22 lakh new members have been added. That is, these people have got employment.
What do the figures say?
In the month of January, 12.06 lakh new members have been added to ESIC whereas 12.90 lakh new members were added to this scheme last month. Similarly, 10.45 lakh new members were added to the EPFO in January 2020, while 9.12 lakh new members were added to the organization in December, a month earlier.
1.49 crore new members added from ESIC
The National Statistics Office (NSO) report states that during FY 2018-19, a total of 1.49 crore new members have been added to ESIC. It has also been told in this report that a total of 3.62 crore new subscribers joined the ESIC scheme during September 2017 to January 2020.
This report of the NSO is based on the available data of new members joining various social security schemes. These include data obtained from ESIC, Retirement Fund and Pension Fund Regulatory and Development Authority (PFRDA). According to the report, the number of new members joining ESIC from September 2017 to March 2018 was 83.35 lakh.
61.12 lakh new members added from EPFO
According to the report, 61.12 lakh new members were added to the EPFO in the year 2018-19. Similarly, during September 2017 to March 2018, the total number of new registrations stood at 15.52 lakhs. The latest data shows that in the period September 2017 to January 2020, about 3.20 crore new members are associated with the Employees Provident Fund Scheme. In this financial year, from April to January, 69.35 lakh new members adopted social security run by EPFO. This number is more than 61.12 lakh members joining during the entire financial year in 2018-19.
