It has been revealed in a report that many users of Vodafone-Idea are receiving phishing text messages in WhatsApp and SMS for 5G. In this message, users are being asked to click on the link given in the message sent to upgrade to 5G service. In the message that Vodafone-Idea users are receiving, Vi’s 5G service has gone live and they are being asked to click on the given link or call the given number to upgrade.
Link is linked to Paytm account
The surprising thing is that the link given in most of the SMS is linked to a Paytm account. From this, it can be guessed that how fraudsters are adopting vicious tricks to trap users on the pretext of upgrading to 5G service. It is a matter of concern that by clicking on this link, users’ phones can be hacked and bank account details present in it along with other data can also be stolen.
Companies gave this advice
Similar fraud messages are also being received by those users of Jio and Airtel, who are not living in cities with 5G service. Telecom companies have advised users to be alert from such frauds. The companies also said that the company itself will inform the users about the commencement of 5G service in their area. Along with this, the companies also assured the users that the 5G internet service will also work on the existing 4G SIM of the users.
