The notification has been issued by the Department of Personnel and Training. Accordingly, in respect of LTC, new rules regarding food during rail travel and ticket booking charges at government expense will be applicable.

There has been a change in the rules of essential travel concession ie LTC for central employees. Notification has been issued by the Department of Personnel and Training for these personnel. Accordingly, in respect of LTC, new rules regarding food during rail travel and ticket booking charges at government expense will be applicable.

Salary to government employees is given by the Central Government under the Seventh Pay Commission, while the rule of LTC for these employees is decided according to the Central Civil Services (Essential Travel Concession) 1988. In respect of LTC, the new rules cover issues like food charges during travel, booking of air tickets.

Meal charges during rail travel: In a notification issued by the Department of Personnel and Training, it has been said that now the employees will be allowed to reimburse the meal charges in the train for the purpose of Essential Travel Concession (LTC). Wherever employees travel by rail under LTC and opt for railway catering, they will be reimbursed for the same.

Air ticket booking: If an air ticket is booked under LTC and it has to be canceled due to any reason, the cancellation charges levied by the airlines, agent or platform will also be paid to the employee.

Registration of travel agents done away with: DoPT has decided that government employees who are not entitled to travel by air are no longer required to compulsorily book their tickets through the three travel agencies IRCTC, BLCL and ATT. Bus or train fare for the shortest route will be applicable for them. Here the cancellation charges will be borne by the employee.
