Union Minister of State for Finance Bhagwat Karad, while answering a question in the Rajya Sabha last week (on March 15), said,

It has become clear from the reply of the Union Minister of State for Finance that at present, the Modi government is in no mood to restore the old pension scheme instead of the new pension scheme for its employees. It is to be known that in the year 2004, the old pension scheme was abolished.

Meanwhile, Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot said on Monday that following the decision of the state government, Prime Minister Narendra Modi should announce the implementation of Old Pension Scheme (OPS) for government employees across the country.

He said that after his budgetary announcement to restore the old pension scheme for state employees, Chhattisgarh has also announced to implement it while many other state governments are considering it.

CM Gehlot said, “In view of our decision, Prime Minister Modi should also announce the implementation of OPS in the country.” He said that this decision has been taken on humanitarian grounds. It has been welcomed nationwide by the personnel as well as the general public. He also clarified that no development work will be affected by the implementation of OPS.
