Whatever the announcement may be, it will be applicable from July 1 only.

New rates of dearness allowance will be applicable for central employees from July 1, 2023. However, there is still time to announce it. But, on the evening of 31 July, the AICPI index numbers for June 2023 will be released. It will be clear from this that how much has increased in the dearness allowance. Then after the formal announcement, it will be considered applicable from July 1 itself and payment will be made. If sources are to be believed, it will be announced by the Modi government in September.

You get the gift of dearness allowance twice.

Dearness allowance increases twice every year and it is announced. The Finance Ministry of the government approves it and it is decided by the Labor Ministry by linking it to the Industrial Inflation figures (AICPI). January 1 and July 1 are the fixed dates for this. But, it is usually announced in March and September. Central Government employees eagerly wait for this.

How much is it likely to grow?

The current rate of dearness allowance is 42 per cent. There is a possibility of an increase of 4 percent in this. From the numbers of AICPI index that have come so far, the dearness allowance in the DA table is at the mark of 45.58 percent. This means that the new rate of dearness allowance can be 46 percent. The reason for this is that dearness allowance is given in round figure. If it is less than 0.50, it is paid by the lower round figure and if it is above, it is paid by the higher figure. Now it is 45.58 means 46 percent dearness allowance is fixed. If it is announced in September, then the arrears for the months of July and August will be given to the employees.

How much dearness allowance has increased

If there is an increase of 4 percent in dearness allowance in July 2023 as well, then from July 2021, there would have been a total increase of 15 percent in DA. In July 2021, dearness allowance which was stopped for one and a half years, DA was increased by 17 percent. After that, it was increased by 3 percent for July 2021, 3 percent in January 2022, 4 percent in July 2022 and then 4 percent for January 2023. Overall it has reached 42 percent. Now in July 2023, once again there is a jump of 4 percent. In such a situation, it will now reach 46 percent. If we look at the calculation from 2021, then there has been an increase of about 15 percent in dearness allowance in one and a half year.
