8th Pay Commission Latest Update : Lakhs of employees are waiting for the government update regarding the new pay commission. Meanwhile, the Center made a big announcement on Friday saying that it has no plans to set up the 8th Pay Commission for government employees.
Speaking to a news channel, Finance Ministry Secretary TV Somanathan said the Center has no plans to set up the eighth pay commission for 54 lakh central government employees and pensioners before the national elections next year.
The news channel quoted Somanathan as saying, ‘There is no plan regarding the establishment of the Eighth Pay Commission. It is not payable at present.
Congress implemented 7th Pay Commission in 2013
As per past trends before the elections, the Center has effectively used the establishment of the Pay Commission to woo government employees, armed forces personnel and family pensioners. It should be noted that the 7th Pay Commission was set up by the Congress-led UPA government in September 2013, a few months before the state and general elections.
However, the central government has avoided such a move for the time being, instead focusing on reviewing a new pension scheme that has become a bone of contention for new state and central government employees..
