Supreme Court: The Supreme Court gave a big decision while hearing a case on Thursday. In fact, the court said that a husband does not have any right or independent dominion over ‘Stridhan’ i.e. wife’s property in any form.

Supreme Court: While hearing a petition on Thursday, the Supreme Court gave a major decision. In fact, the court said that a husband has no control over his wife’s stridhan and although the husband can use his stridhan in times of crisis, it is the moral responsibility of the husband to return it to his wife.

In fact, while hearing the verdict in the petition, the court ordered the woman’s husband to return his wife’s gold worth Rs 25 lakh to him and follow the court’s order.

What was the matter?

In fact, in the case, the woman had claimed in the court that 89 gold coins were gifted to her by her family at the time of marriage. After the marriage, her father also gave a separate check of Rs 2 lakh to her husband. The woman claimed that, on the very first night of the marriage, her husband took all the jewelery from her and gave it to her mother.

According to the information, the woman has also alleged that her husband and mother-in-law misused all her jewelery to repay their debt. In fact, the family court had ruled in 2011 that the husband and mother-in-law had indeed misused the woman’s gold jewelery and hence she should be entitled to compensation for the loss.

‘Stridhan’ property of a wife:

The Kerala High Court partially rejected the relief granted by the family court, ruling that the woman had not fully proved the misappropriation of gold jewelery by her husband and mother-in-law. After this decision, the woman then turned to appeal to the Supreme Court. After which now the bench of Justice Sanjeev Khanna and Justice Dipankar Dutta ruled in this case that ‘Stridhan’ is the property of the wife, and the husband does not have any right or independent dominion over this property in any form.
