According to the list of the Reserve Bank (RBI), banks are going to be closed on Wednesday i.e. October 16, 2024. These include public and private sector banks. The reason for this is the festival of Lakshmi Puja on October 16. On this day all banks will be closed in Kolkata and Tripura. However, banks in the rest of the country will function like normal days.

  • October 16: Lakshmi Puja (Wednesday) Kolkata, Agartala
  • October 17, 2024 (Thursday): Maharishi Valmiki Jayanti/Kati Bihu – celebrated in states like Karnataka, Assam and Himachal Pradesh.
  • October 26, 2024 (Saturday): Accession Day – celebrated in Jammu and Kashmir.
  • October 31, 2024 (Thursday): Diwali (Deepawali) – Major festival celebrated across the country.
  • Also all government and private banks will remain closed on the second and fourth Saturdays (October 12 and 26) as well as every Sunday of the month.

Bank holidays according to states

October is very important in terms of festivals. Some special festivals will be celebrated in different states this month, due to which banks will remain closed. For example, Assam will celebrate Kati Bihu on October 17, while Jammu and Kashmir will celebrate Accession Day on October 26. Many states have already celebrated Durga Puja and Dussehra on different dates in the second week of October.

How transactions are done on holidays

Banking regulator RBI oversees the holiday schedule. On the days listed by RBI, you cannot go to a physical branch of the bank and do things like withdrawing or depositing money. This applies to both public and private sector banks.
