iPhone 16: Difficulties have arisen for Apple. The sale of iPhone 16 series has been banned in Indonesia. The Ministry of Industry said that Apple had promised to invest in the country but it did not do so. When Apple is not giving value to investment in the country, then why should its product be sold here.
On one hand, Apple’s latest iPhone 16 series is getting a good response, on the other hand Apple has suffered a major setback. The sale of Apple’s iPhone 16 series has been banned in Indonesia, along with its operation has also stopped there. Even after this, if iPhone 16 is sold in the country, it will be considered illegal.
Why was the ban imposed?
Industry Minister Agus Gumiwang Kartasmita announced a ban on the sale and operation of iPhone 16 series in Indonesia. He said that no one should buy iPhone from foreign countries. If iPhone 16 is used within the borders of Indonesia, it will be considered illegal. Even if it came under International Mobile Equipment Identity (IMEI) certification.
According to the Indonesian government, Apple was making many shortcomings in terms of investment in the country, which is the main reason for the ban of iPhone in the country. Apple had promised to invest 1.71 trillion rupiah (about 919 crores) in local operations, but it has invested only 1.48 trillion rupiah (about 795 crores). This shortfall is 230 billion rupiah (about 123.6 crores) which the tech giant still has to cover.
Why did the matter not work out
Minister Kartasmita said that when Apple does not give any value to investing in the country, then why should its products be sold here. If Apple does not fulfill the promises made regarding investment, then the ban on iPhone 16 will continue. Earlier this year, Apple CEO Tim Cook was in Jakarta, where both of them agreed on many things. Even after this, there were talks between these two many times. However, even after this, the iPhone 16 Pro array and Apple Watch Series 10 were not distributed in Indonesia, which hurt Indonesia the most.
The Indonesian Ministry of Industry confirmed that at present, the TKDN certification application for the iPhone 16 is being reviewed. Even if the company is found right in this, the iPhone will still remain banned in the country. To get this removed, Apple will have to fulfill the promises made regarding investment in the country.
