Every year, pensioners of the state and central government have to submit life certificate or life certificate to continue their pension. From 1 November 2024, pensioners can submit life certificate. Pensioners who are 80 years of age or above can now submit their life certificate from 1 October. Currently, there are many options available for submitting life certificate, so that you do not have to go to the bank.
Many options like door step banking, post office and face authentication are given to the people. According to the Central Pension Accounting Office (CPAO), if a pensioner does not want to appear before the Pension Disbursing Agency (PDA), then he can do it by submitting life certificate by staying at home.
What to do
Pensioners need the signature of a Designated Official on the life certificate for this. According to the CPAO (Central Pension Accounting Office) scheme booklet, pensioners are required to be physically present. A list of designated officials has been released, whose signatures are valid for life certificates. According to paragraph 14.3 of the scheme booklet issued by the CPAO, a pensioner who submits a life certificate in the format of life certificate with the signature of the officials is not required to appear personally.
To submit the life certificate, first of all you have to download the performa of life certificate prescribed for pensioners of the state or central government from the pension site. After this, you have to fill your full details including the PPO number in this performa and get it signed by the designated officer.
Signatures of these officers are valid
1- A person exercising the powers of a magistrate under the Criminal Procedure Code
2- A registrar or sub-registrar appointed under the Indian Registration Act
3- A gazetted government servant
4- A postmaster, a departmental sub-postmaster or post office inspector
5- A police officer not below the rank of a sub-inspector in charge of a police station
6- A Class-I officer of the Reserve Bank of India, an officer of the State Bank of India or its subsidiary company (including grade II officer)
7- A block development officer, tehsildar or naib tehsildar
8- Members of Parliament, members of state assemblies or assemblies of Union Territory Governments/Administrations and trade officers
Life certificate is submitted every year so that banks know whether the pensioner is alive or not. The process for senior citizens aged 60 to 80 years will start from November 1, 2024.
