Many features are pre-enabled in the popular messaging platform WhatsApp, which should be turned off. By doing this, you get better privacy and security in the app.
WhatsApp has crores of users in India and with the help of this app, tasks like chatting, file sharing and calling can be done easily. After installing WhatsApp, some settings are enabled by default, which you should turn off immediately for better privacy and security. We are sharing a list of such settings below, which it is wise to disable immediately.
First disable Last Seen
This feature of WhatsApp shows when you last opened WhatsApp. If you do not want others to know that you were online or when you were active on the app, then disable Last Seen immediately. This option is available in the privacy settings.
Hide your profile photo too
If you do not want everyone to see your WhatsApp profile photo, then you have to go to the privacy settings and choose the right option related to it. By default, Everyone is selected, but if you want, you can share the profile photo with selected contacts or only those people whose numbers are saved in your contact list.
About section and status privacy
Just like the profile photo, there is an option to write about yourself on WhatsApp and share status like Instagram stories. If you do not want the status and about to be shown to everyone, then change the privacy settings related to them and stop sharing.
Request to add to group
The messaging app owned by Meta has given this important feature in the past and due to this no one will be able to add you to the group without permission. However, this feature is also not enabled by default. After turning it on, if you are added to a group, then first you will be asked for permission to be a part of that group. If you want, you can also reject this request.
Disable read receipts as well
After a message is read on the platform, a blue tick appears, which lets the other person know that the message has been read. If you do not want this to happen, you can turn off read receipts. After this, even if the message is read, the other person will not be shown a blue tick. Keep in mind, by doing this you will also not be able to see whether the other person has read your message or not.
Also, if you want that the photos and videos coming on WhatsApp do not automatically appear in the phone’s gallery, then for this you should go to the chat and turn off Media Visibility. Apart from this, you can also disable automatic download.
