Reliance is the strongest organized force in the majorly unorganized Indian retail landscape. It owns 7,573 stores throughout India including Reliance Fresh, Reliance Digital, Reliance Trends, and Jio stores. It now aims to reach out to millions of Indian customers by bringing products closer to the customer.

This app will bridge the gap between Reliance’s retail business and digital services business. It will be a one stop destination for all the offline merchants to get their hands on their products. The report adds that Reliance Jio is piloting the service with 5,000 kirana stores in Mumbai and Ahmedabad. And in a year’s time it has planned to spread all across the country.

The app, when fully ready, will enable key features including option to file GST by inputting invoices, file claims, manage inventory and order for a pick-and-drop to a customer’s doorstep. Through the app, Reliance will also connect these shopkeepers to retail distributors to offer special discounts. Often, these offers will be store-specific and will help the shopkeepers to clear out excess stock. Additionally, Reliance will also connect these small-scale retailers with third-party transporters and logistics providers to help them deliver goods not sourced from Reliance Retail.

The coupons for these tokenized discounts and sale will be available on the Jio Money app and offered as a click-through message on the main application

The app will enable merchants to integrate with Reliance’s e-commerce platform and power their inventory, logistics, payments, and supply chain requirements, reports Factor Daily. Importantly, merchants can also buy inventory from the Reliance wholesale arm.

Currently, Reliance has about 7,500 stores and 50 warehouses and it plans to use them for fulfilling demand created by both channels – offline as well as online.

Reliance Jio users will also receive promotional offers for special discounts in the app, which they can redeem at nearby stores. This way, Reliance will also be able to attract more subscribers to its network by offering them indirect benefits.

Reliance wants to enter e-commerce market by catering to key segments like electronics, apparel, home and furnishing, baby, beauty and personal care, books among others. Reliance Retail will serve as supplier to these kirana stores further bringing it closer to untapped customers.

With its new service, Jio does not want consumers to shop online or on its website but the goal is to enable consumers to use any of Jio’s platform.
