The Central Government on Tuesday answered questions related to Dearness Allowance in the Upper House of Parliament, Rajya Sabha. The question was asked why the increase in dearness allowance of central government employees is stable at 3% while the rate of inflation is clearly higher? According to the central government, the increase in Dearness Allowance and Dearness Relief to its employees and pensioners is calculated on the basis of inflation rate under the All India Consumer Price Index (AICPI) for industrial workers. The government told Parliament that the inflation rate in the last two quarters has been more than 5 per cent.

Pankaj Choudhary, Minister of State in the Union Finance Ministry, on the question of increase in Dearness Allowance and Dearness Relief, said in Rajya Sabha that the Dearness Allowance and Dearness Relief of Central Government employees and pensioners will be calculated by the All India Consumer Price Index (AICPI-IW) released by the Ministry of Labor. ) based on the rate of inflation.

Rajya Sabha MP Naran Bhai J Rathwa asked the Minister of State for Finance whether the government would consider giving Dearness Allowance and Dearness Relief according to the prices and not keep Dearness Allowance and Dearness Relief fixed at 3%. In response to this question, Minister of State for Finance Pankaj Chaudhary said that the government has no such plan.
