The Ministry of Railways on November 4 withdrew from the Divisional Railway Managers (DRMs) the right to increase and decrease the price of platform tickets with immediate effect.

The Ministry of Railways on November 4 withdrew the right of Divisional Railway Managers (DRMs) to increase and decrease the price of platform tickets with immediate effect. Issuing a fresh order, the Ministry of Railways said that it has been decided to withdraw the power given to the Divisional Railway Managers to fix the rates of platform tickets with immediate effect.

Earlier the 2015 order had empowered the DRMs to fix platform ticket rates for specific requirements such as to control the crowd on platforms during melas, rallies etc. Significantly, Indian Railways on Thursday reduced platform ticket prices to Rs 50 on account of Diwali and Chhath Puja. Now once again platform tickets will be available for Rs 10.

Ticket extended at these 14 stations
Whereas earlier, during the festive season in Indian Railways, platform tickets were increased by up to Rs 50 in some railway stations. Railways had increased the price of platform tickets for 14 railway stations of Lucknow, Varanasi, Barabanki, Ayodhya Cantt, Ayodhya Junction, Akbarpur, Shahganj, Jaunpur, Sultanpur Junction, Rae Bareli, Janghai, Bhadohi, Pratapgarh and Unnao Junction of Northern Railway Zone. . ,

Reduced platform ticket
However, now the railways has reduced the platform ticket fare of these stations. Here now the platform ticket will be available for Rs 10. Railways has increased the price of these tickets on 26 October.
