SMS and email alerts about locker access
In case of unauthorized access to the locker, before the end of the day, the banks will inform the registered mail address and mobile number of the customers about the date, time and some necessary steps.
Banks will now give money to customers in this condition
According to the new standard of Reserve Bank of India i.e. RBI, if there is any loss of any locker items due to the negligence of the bank, then the bank will have to compensate the customers. It has been said in the notification of RBI that it is the responsibility of the banks to take all steps keeping in view the security here. According to the notification, it is the responsibility of the banks to ensure that cases like fire, theft, robbery do not happen due to any deficiency or negligence in the bank.
Bank will not compensate in these cases
If the contents of the locker are damaged due to any natural calamity like earthquake, flood, storm etc., the Bank will not be liable to compensate for the same. Apart from this, according to the revised guidelines, if there is a loss due to the customer’s own fault or negligence, then the bank will not give any money to the customers. On the other hand, to keep the banks safe from such calamities, some precautions related to the locker system have to be taken.
What happens in case of death of the account holder?
According to the new rules, if the owner of the locker nominates someone, then the banks will have to give him the freedom to withdraw the goods. This can be done after verification of the death certificate and confirmation of the identity of the person.
