As per the new rule, if the spouse of a Central Government servant has been allotted accommodation at the same station by the Central Government/State Government/Autonomous Public Sector Undertaking/Semi-Government Organization etc., whether he/she resides in that accommodation or it is rented by him/her, If he/she lives separately in the accommodation taken, he/she will not be entitled to House Rent Allowance.

7th Pay Commission Central Employees: There is big news for central employees. The Central Government has changed the rules of House Rent Allowance. The Expenditure Department of the Ministry of Finance has issued guidelines for amending the rules of House Rent Allowance of employees. Under this, it was told that which employees will get the benefit and who will be entitled to it and who has been excluded from this category.

Under the rules, a central employee will not be entitled to House Rent Allowance if he/she shares the Government accommodation allotted to someone else. Apart from this, if the central employee lives in the accommodation allotted to his/her parents/son/daughter by the government bank or company etc., then he/she will not get the house rent allowance.

As per the new rule, if the spouse of a Central Government servant has been allotted accommodation at the same station by the Central Government/State Government/Autonomous Public Sector Undertaking/Semi-Government Organization etc., whether he/she resides in that accommodation or it is rented by him/her, If he/she lives separately in the accommodation taken, he/she will not be entitled to House Rent Allowance.

According to the guideline, there are three categories X, Y and Z, according to the recommendations of the Seventh Pay Commission, the X category gets house rent allowance at the rate of 24%. Whereas, the rate of HRA for Y category is 46% while for Z category it is 8%. The above instructions will apply to all civilian employees of the Central Government, civilian employees paid from the Defense Services Estimates and persons serving in the Indian Audit and Accounts Department.
