According to media reports, the Kerala High Court has ordered the Pinarayi Vijayan government of the state to revise the minimum wages of nurses working in the private sector. The High Court gave the government three months to come up with the revised figures after consulting the nurses and their employers. The court suggested that the government consult both the nurses and the hospital owners before doing so.

The government had fixed this much salary

In fact, after a massive nurses protest and strike in 2018, the Kerala government had agreed to revise the salaries, with the state government fixing a minimum of Rs 20,000 and a maximum of Rs 30,000 for a hospital with a 50-bed capacity. But the hospitals and nurses protested by saying that this salary is low, it should be increased, the nurses had also protested recently and went on strike.

Salary will be fixed after the consent of both the parties.

According to media reports, the basic salary of a nurse currently working in the government sector is 39,300, so the striking nurses demanded that their salary should also be increased to the same standards. To this, the hospital management argued that the government took a unilateral decision without taking their opinion into consideration. After this the matter reached the court and now the High Court has asked the government to take the opinion of both the parties before taking the final decision.
