Income Tax Return Slab: Income Tax Department provides you the option of e-verification using Aadhaar OTP (one-time password) or using internet banking, bank account or demat account. One can also do e-verification through Digital Signature Certificate.

Income Tax Return: If you are wondering why your Income Tax Return (ITR) is not processed yet or why there is a delay in getting your tax refund, first check whether you have e-verified your ITR? If you do not e-verify your ITR, then the filing process is considered incomplete and your ITR becomes invalid.

Income tax return

To consider the ITR as valid, it is mandatory to e-verify it. If you have filed your income tax return but have not e-verified it, then you will not get the refund. In such a situation, after filing the income tax return, do e-verify it under the last step. ITR can be verified offline by printing and delivering a hard copy to the Income Tax Department’s Central Processing Center in Bengaluru, but e-verify is much easier and can be done online.

How to e-verify your ITR?

Income Tax Department provides you the option of e-verification using Aadhaar OTP (One-Time Password) or using Internet Banking, Bank Account or Demat Account. One can also do e-verification through Digital Signature Certificate. E-verify through Digital Signature Certificate can happen only if e-verify is done immediately after filing.

How to e-verify ITR

  • Go to the e-filing portal of the Income Tax Department. Click on ‘e-verify return’.
  • You need to enter your PAN, assessment year for which the verification is being done (2023-24) and acknowledgment number.
  • Alternatively, you can also login with your PAN and Password, then go to “My Account” and then click on “e-Verify Return”.
  • The new page will then display the file for which verification is pending.

Aadhaar verification

The process of verification through Aadhaar OTP is quite straightforward. One can use the OTP received on the mobile number registered with Aadhaar to verify and e-verify the return. If you already have an e-verification code, you can use the same or generate it through your net banking portal, demat account or offline ATM. This e-verification code can be used to verify the online return filing.
