2000 Rupees Note: The Reserve Bank of India has informed that by 31 August 2023, 93 percent of the 2000 rupee notes have been returned to the banks. The last date to deposit or change it is 30 September.

2000 Rupees Note Return in Banks: Reserve Bank of India has issued a big update regarding 2000 rupee note. According to the new data, a total of 93 percent of the notes worth Rs 2000 (2000 Rupees Note) have returned to the banks. This means that now only 7 percent shares are available in the market.

The Reserve Bank of India had announced to withdraw the Rs 2000 note from circulation on 19 May 2023. Reserve Bank had said that Rs 2000 note will have to be deposited in the bank by September 30 (Last Date to Deposit 2000 rupees Note). However, in the meantime, Rs 2000 notes will be kept in circulation. No shopkeeper or anyone else can refuse to take it.

How many Rs 2,000 notes are in circulation now? 

According to the data shared by the Reserve Bank, data received from banks shows that the total value of Rs 2,000 notes deposited in banks till August 31, 2023 was Rs 3.32 lakh crore. This means that on August 31, 2023, only Rs 2,000 notes worth Rs 0.24 lakh crore were in circulation, which is 7 percent of the total Rs 2000 notes.

87 percent notes deposited 

The Reserve Bank of India said that around 87 per cent of the Rs 2,000 notes were deposited in banks, while 13 per cent were exchanged with other notes. It is worth noting that the total value of notes in circulation on March 31, 2023 was Rs 3.62 lakh crore,

which came down to Rs 3.56 lakh crore at the time of the announcement of their withdrawal on May 19, 2023. The Reserve Bank of India has requested people to deposit in banks or exchange with other notes by 30 September 2023.
