To provide relief to central employees from inflation, an increase in dearness allowance was announced last month, after which the salary increased. Now the central employees are waiting to know when the 8th Pay Commission will be implemented and when the fitment factor will increase. Central employees are currently receiving salaries and allowances as per the recommendations of the 7th Pay Commission, which was implemented about 9 years ago in the year 2014. At the same time, now the central employees are demanding the formation of the 8th Pay Commission. Employees have also demonstrated in Telangana regarding this. However, the Central Government does not yet have a clear stand on the 8th Pay Commission. However, there is a possibility that after the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, the Central Government may constitute the 8th Pay Commission and it can be implemented by 2025-26.
Salary structure will change due to increase in fitment factor – If
the Central Government implements the 8th Pay Commission, then the fitment factor will increase. Fitment factor plays a very important role in the salary received by central employees. Apart from the allowances of these employees, their basic salary is decided on the basis of fitment factor. After the implementation of the 7th Pay Commission in 2014, the fitment factor was changed from the year 2016. Since then 2.57 percent fitment factor is applicable. Central employees are demanding increase in fitment factor. Employees want the government to increase the fitment factor to 3.68 percent.
There will be a 44 percent increase in the salary of central employees – Let
us understand with an example how much the salary of central employees will increase if the 8th Pay Commission is implemented or the percentage of fitment factor is increased. At present, central employees are getting 2.57 percent fitment factor, according to which the minimum basic salary of central employees is Rs 18,000. If the fitment factor is made 3.68 percent, then the minimum basic salary will increase by more than 44 percent i.e. directly by Rs 8,000 to Rs 26,000.
