IndiGo Senior Vice President Ashim Mitra said that we have managed to partially compensate for some of the losses incurred during Covid with profitable performance in the last 3 quarters. We are working on a higher salary revision. Therefore, we have implemented salary increases for all our line release pilots. Sources said that the average increase in salary is above 10%.

IndiGo, which has more than 60% share in India’s domestic market, has achieved a net profit of Rs 3,090 crore in the April-June period. This was the airline’s highest quarterly profit.

The company has also maintained a fixed salary of 70 hours, which means that pilots will be paid a minimum salary of 70 hours. In addition to the scheduled hours, pilots get paid for overtime. IndiGo’s competitors like Air India and Akasa Air have fixed the salary of their pilots at 40 hours. This is often a matter of controversy because pilots say that their earnings depend on the number of flights for the airline.

IndiGo’s pay hike comes amid airlines struggling to find and retain senior captains and trainers following record aircraft orders. A situation of controversy remains due to 43 pilots of Akasa Air leaving the airline without completing the six-month notice period. The airline has been forced to increase salaries twice in a month. At the same time, Air India has increased the salary by 20% in April.
