2000 Note RBI Update: The facility of depositing or exchanging bank notes was extended by RBI till October 7, 2023.

2000 Note RBI Update: Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has made a big announcement on Rs 2000 note. RBI says Rs 2000 bank notes will remain legal tender. The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) had announced the withdrawal of Rs 2000 bank notes from circulation on May 19, 2023. The facility to deposit or exchange bank notes was initially available across all bank branches in the country till September 30, 2023, which was later extended till October 7, 2023. RBI has now issued its notification and given a new update.

RBI further said that the facility for deposit and/or exchange of Rs 2000 bank notes will be available at 19 issue offices of RBI. The public is requested to avail the facility of sending Rs 2000 notes through the post offices of India Post. This will save one from going to RBI office to deposit bank notes. Rs 2000 bank notes will remain legal tender.

Deposit can be made through any post office

RBI further said that from May 19, 2023, the facility to exchange Rs 2000 notes was also available at 19 issue offices of the Reserve Bank (RBI issue offices). After this, the facility of changing money will also be available in the issue offices of RBI from October 9, 2023. Rs 2000 bank notes are being accepted over the counters for deposit by individuals/entities into their bank accounts. Apart from this, people can send Rs 2000 bank notes through Indian Post from any post office in the country to any issuing office of RBI for credit in their bank accounts. For this people will have to fill a format.

97 percent notes returned

When the withdrawal of Rs 2000 bank notes was announced, the total value of Rs 2000 bank notes in circulation was Rs 3.56 lakh crore on May 19, 2023, which has reduced to Rs 0.10 lakh crore on October 31, 2023. In this way, by May 19, 2023, more than 97% of the bank notes of 2000 are back in circulation. Let us tell you that people were facing inconvenience in depositing notes, due to which RBI has provided this facility.
