The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has said that residents who got Unique Identification Number 10 years ago and never got their documents modified during this period should update their latest information.

Know how to update Aadhaar
UIDAI has said in a statement that Aadhaar holders can update supporting documents (proof of identity and proof of address) online through ‘My Aadhaar Portal’. Apart from this, if they want, they can also modify their unique identity information offline by visiting the Aadhaar center.

The statement said, “Residents who had made their Aadhaar 10 years ago and have never updated it in these years, such Aadhaar holders should update their documents.”

Over 1100 Schemes Linked to Aadhaar
Over the past decade, Aadhaar numbers have emerged as an accepted proof of identity for residents in India. Aadhaar is accepted as identification in more than 1,100 government schemes and programmes, including 319 schemes run by the central government.

Link PAN and Aadhaar
At the same time, the Income Tax Department has issued an update to link Aadhaar card and PAN card. The Income Tax Department on Saturday said that Permanent Account Number (PAN) not linked to Aadhaar number will be declared ‘inoperative’ by March next year.

According to the Income Tax Department, ‘As per the Income Tax Act, 1961, it is mandatory for all PAN holders, except those falling in the exempted category, to link their PAN with Aadhaar before March 31, 2023. PAN cards not linked to Aadhaar will become inactive from April 1, 2023.
