Airtel added 38 lakh wireless subscribers in September. At the same time, Reliance Jio has added 1.5 million customers in September. In September this year, Airtel has more than twice as many customers as Reliance Jio. However, Vodafone Idea (Vi) has received a major setback. This is stated in the latest data released by the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI).
Airtel’s user base grew faster than Jio for the second consecutive month
September has been the second consecutive month when Airtel’s user base has grown faster than Reliance Jio. Airtel’s wireless user base grew by 1.17 percent (month-on-month) in September to 32.66 crore. At the same time, Jio’s wireless user base grew by 0.36 percent to 40.41 crore. In September, Vodafone Idea lost 47 lakh subscribers and the company’s user base stood at 29.55 crore.

Reliance Jio, Bharti Airtel and Vodafone Idea (Vi) had the highest market share of the top 3 active subscribers , with 35.1 per cent, 28.4 per cent and 25.7 per cent respectively. In September, Reliance Jio was the top gainer in the wireline segment with 303,205 additions. In September, Jio was the operator with the most active subscriber base. Jio’s inactive subscriber base stood at 8.59 crore, which is 21 per cent of the total. At the same time, 96.9 percent of Airtel and 88.4 percent of Vodafone Idea users were active.
Increased mobile number portability request
Total broadband subscriber base grew by 1.41 per cent to 726.3 million on a month-on-month basis. Reliance Jio, Airtel and Vodafone Idea (Vi) had market share of 55.9 per cent, 22.9 per cent and 16.5 per cent respectively in the broadband market. The mobile number portability request increased to 520.8 million in September from 512.1 million in August.
