Tech brand Apple has had to stop selling iPhone 14 and iPhone SE in the European Union (EU). In fact, it has been made mandatory for all companies in the EU to provide USB Type-C in devices.

California-based tech company Apple has had to discontinue its select iPhone models in the European Union (EU) because they do not have a USB Type-C port. In fact, the EU has made USB-C mandatory for all electronic devices on 28 December, so that gadgets can be charged through a single charging cable. The list of devices whose sale Apple has had to stop includes iPhone 14 and iPhone SE (3rd Gen).

The new law of the European Union (EU) clearly states that the same charger should be used for phones, tablets, cameras and other electronic devices. Through this change, not only e-waste will be reduced but all devices will also get the benefit of standard fast charging technology. These regulations do not affect users who already have devices with Lightning or Micro-USB ports.

Pressure was constantly increasing on Apple

The iPhone maker was providing Lightning port in its devices, but there was constant pressure from the European Union to include USB-C charging in Apple devices as well. In the year 2023, with the iPhone 15 series, Apple has started offering the option of USB Type-C charging. However, the company’s older devices were still available with Lightning port at a discounted price.

Due to the new regulations, Apple had to stop their sale and they have been discontinued. However, these iPhone models will be available for sale till the stock runs out with third-party resellers. Let us tell you, the sale of iPhone 14 and iPhone SE will continue in markets outside the EU i.e. America, India and China and no such change has been made.

Let us tell you, it was easy for Android phone makers to comply with the rules implemented in the EU because most Android smartphone makers have already adopted USB Type-C charging. In the Indian market too, almost all new devices are coming with USB Type-C connectivity and charging.
