Banks also do not give information to customers-
The most important among the services available with ATM card is free insurance (ATM Card Insurance). Yes…as soon as the bank issues an ATM card to a customer, the customer also gets Accidental Insurance or Untimely Death Insurance (Life Insurance). However, due to people not being aware of it, only a few people are able to claim this insurance.
A major reason for this is the lack of financial literacy among the people. Forget about the village people, even educated urban people do not pay attention to the terms and conditions associated with ATMs. Banks also do not give information to their customers about the insurance available with the ATM.
This much coverage is available according to the card-
If a person has been using the ATM of any nationalized or non-nationalized bank for at least 45 days, then he becomes entitled to claim the insurance that comes with the ATM card. Banks issue many types of ATM cards to customers. The amount of insurance provided with the ATM card is decided according to its category.
Customers will get Rs 01 lakh on Classic Card, Rs 02 lakh on Platinum Card, Rs 50 thousand on Ordinary Master Card, Rs 05 lakh on Platinum Master Card and Visa. Insurance coverage up to Rs 1.5-02 lakh is available on the Visa Card. Under Pradhan Mantri Jan-Dhan Yojana, customers get insurance of Rs 1 to 02 lakh with RuPay Card Insurance available on open accounts.
Claim ATM insurance like this-
If an ATM card holder becomes a victim of an accident and becomes disabled in one hand or one leg, then he gets a coverage of Rs 50,000. Similarly, in case of loss of both hands or both legs, an insurance benefit of Rs 1 lakh is available. In case of death, coverage ranging from Rs 01 lakh to Rs 05 lakh is available depending on the card.
To claim the insurance provided with the ATM card, the cardholder’s nominee has to go to the concerned bank and apply. Insurance claim is available on submitting documents like copy of FIR, certificate of hospital treatment etc. in the bank. In case of death, the cardholder’s nominee has to submit the death certificate, copy of the FIR, dependent’s certificate, original copy of the certificate of the deceased etc.
