The government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi took a big decision in the cabinet meeting on Wednesday and announced changes in the Ayushman Bharat Yojna, which provides free treatment to the people. This one decision of the government will benefit more than 6 crore people of the country, whose age is 70 years or more. Yes, now the elderly of this age group will also be included in the Ayushman scheme and will be able to avail free treatment. 6 crore elderly people of 4.5 crore families will benefit
First of all, let us talk about the decision of the government, so let us tell you that in the cabinet meeting, there was a discussion about increasing the cover of Ayushman Yojna and then it was announced to include the elderly above 70 years of age in it. Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnav said that now the elderly above 70 years of age will also be included in this government scheme and this decision will benefit 6 crore senior citizens of 4.5 crore families and they will get free health insurance cover of Rs 5 lakh. The government had indicated a change in the rule of this scheme in April 2024 this year and now it has been implemented.
Special card will be available, these rules changed in the scheme
The special thing in the latest announcement of the government is that the government has also made some different rules to give benefits under the scheme to these more than 6 crore elderly people. The government said that under this scheme, a new separate card will be issued to the eligible beneficiaries. If senior citizens are currently taking cover under any central government health scheme, they will have the option to switch to Ayushman Bharat.
Another important thing here is that all these senior citizens aged 70 years and above, irrespective of their social and economic status, will be eligible to avail the benefits of AB PM-JAY. If someone in the family is already included in the Ayushman Bharat scheme and there is an elderly person above 70 years of age in his family, then he will get additional coverage of Rs 5 lakh. To avail the benefits of this scheme, the elderly will have to register under Ayushman Bharat, the process of which will be started soon.

- People living in rural areas, destitute or tribal,
- Disabled people from scheduled caste or tribe
- People working in unorganized sector or daily wage laborers
- People who have a disabled person in their family
- People below poverty line
Such people cannot get the card
- People working in organized sector
- A part of whose earnings is deducted in PF
- Who are members of ESIC
- Who pay income tax
- Who have their own permanent house and car
- Who have a government job
Ayushman Bharat PM-JAY is the world’s largest publicly funded health benefit scheme and it provides cover to 55 crore people from 12.34 crore families. The most important thing is that all the members of the eligible families, irrespective of their age, have been included under the scheme. In this scheme, 7.37 crore people including 49 percent women beneficiaries have been admitted to the hospital and got treatment. Till now (till June 30, 2024) 34.7 crore Ayushman cards have been made.
Network of 29000 hospitals, these major diseases covered
The Ayushman Bharat Yojana card holder gets free treatment for all major diseases under the scheme by the government and fatal diseases like cancer are also covered in it. Apart from this, heart disease and kidney related diseases are also treated for free. Not only this, epidemics like Corona are also treated in it, while cataract treatment is also available. Under this scheme, eligible beneficiaries can avail cashless and paperless health services in more than 29,000 listed hospitals across the country.

Talking about the necessary documents for this, there should be Aadhar card, residence certificate, ration card and active mobile number. After this, application is made by going to the CSC center.
