Bank employees 5 day Working: Finance Ministry may soon give approval for working in banks for 5 days during the week and 2 days off. Because, the Indian Bank Association, an organization of banks, has agreed to the proposal.
New Delhi: The Finance Ministry may soon give approval for working in banks for 5 days during the week and 2 days off. According to the report, the Indian Banks Association has given its consent to the proposal of working for 5 days. After which the possibilities of Saturday-Sunday being a holiday in banks have been strengthened. At present, there is no work in banks on the second and fourth Saturdays of the month. After the proposal is approved, there is a possibility of holiday in banks on the first and third Saturdays of the month as well.
As per the convenience of the employees in the corporate offices of the metro cities, the system of 5 days working days and 2 days holiday is applicable to the employees. Under this arrangement, instead of 8 hours, arrangements have been made for the employees to work for about 9 hours every day. The possibilities of accepting the demand of bank organizations to implement a similar system in the banking sector have been strengthened.
In relation to declaring 5 working days in a week, this proposal has been agreed upon in the meeting of the Indian Banks’ Association (IBA) held on 28th July. Now the proposal will be sent to the Finance Ministry, after which the final decision will be taken by the Ministry. In the last meeting held in May, it was said that instead of working for 5 days, the total working hours would have to be increased by 40 minutes per day.
40 minutes extra work per day
In the Indian Banks’ Association (IBA) bank unions meeting, it was proposed that the total working hours of bank employees can be increased by 40 minutes per day with cash transactions from 10 am to 4 pm. The work of non-cash transactions will be done in the time which will increase by 40 minutes.
Current banking working day system
According to RBI, at present every bank has declared a weekly holiday on Sunday. Whereas, on the second and fourth Saturdays of every month, the work comes to a standstill. Banking work takes place on the first and third Saturdays. After the approval of the proposal for 5 days holiday, the work will be closed on all Saturdays of the month.
