The Reserve Bank has set a holiday for banks located in different regions across the country today. Today, on the occasion of Buddha Purnima, there will be no business in the bank branches of various states. However, after this, banks will remain closed only on two Sundays and one Saturday in May.

Today i.e. on May 16, the festival of Buddha Purnima is being celebrated across the country. On this occasion, there will be a holiday in banks including all government establishments in many states.

According to the order issued by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI), the festival of Buddha Purnima is being celebrated in almost all the zones of the country today. Due to this, the work in banks will come to a complete halt. However, from Tuesday, all bank branches will open at their scheduled time and work will start. RBI declares holidays in banks, which are applicable to bank branches across the country.

Banks in these cities/states will remain closed today

According to RBI, bank branches in various regions of the country will remain closed on May 16. This includes states like Tripura, Belapur, Madhya Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana, Uttarakhand, Jammu, Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, New Delhi, West Bengal, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Himachal Pradesh and Srinagar. The citizens of these states should know the location of the branches before going for any work in the bank, otherwise they may have to face difficulties.

There are other holidays in May,

the list of holidays in banks is issued by RBI from time to time. In the list released for May, RBI had fixed a total of 11 holidays, including Sundays, second and fourth Saturdays as well. There are still three holidays left in the month of May. There will be a holiday in banks on Sunday on 22 May, fourth Saturday on 28 May and Sunday on 29 May.

Why is it a holiday on this day The day

of Buddha Purnima is celebrated every year across the country as the birth anniversary of Gautam Buddha. On this day, devotees visit Buddhist temples and receive teachings and knowledge from monks. RBI mainly schedules bank holidays in three brackets. This includes the Negotiable Instrument Act, real-time gross settlement and closing of accounts.
