Gold Hallmarking Rules : The government has made major changes in the rules for the purchase of gold jewellery. Which will affect both shopkeepers and customers.
Actually, now gold jewelery will not be valid without hallmark. The new rules will come into effect from 1 April 2023. The Consumer Affairs Ministry has given information about this. According to which now alphanumeric hallmarking of only 6 digits will not be recognized.
The Ministry of Consumer Affairs said that after March 31, shopkeepers will not be able to sell gold jewelery without Hallmark Unique Identification (HUID). This decision has removed the confusion between 4 and 6 digit hallmark. According to the ministry, now the hallmarks with 4 numbers will be closed. This step has been taken by the government to stop the sale of fake jewelry in the country. However, customers will be able to sell old jewellery.
Explain that the purity of gold jewelery is identified by the HUID number. It will now be mandatory for all gold jewelery to have a 6-digit hallmark number. This number contains all the information related to jewelry. It contains purity, weight and purchasing information. The shopkeepers have to upload these details on the BIS portal. The HUID is different and unique for each piece of jewelry.
