Union Labor Minister Santosh Gangwar said on Friday that unemployment benefit claim under Atal Insured Person Welfare Scheme of Employees State Insurance Corporation (ESIC) will be settled within 15 days of applying.
The Board of Directors of ESIC has doubled payments under the unemployment benefit from 24 March to 31 December this year, providing relief to those who lost employment in the wake of the corona virus epidemic. Now 50 percent of the average salary of three months will be given under the scheme.
Gangwar said, the claim under the ESI scheme for unemployment benefits will be settled in 15 days. The scheme will provide relief to those associated with ESI who lost their jobs during the Kovid-19 epidemic. Under this scheme, during the period from 24 March 2020 to 31 December 2020, a benefit equal to fifty percent of the average salary of three months will be given, which was previously 25 percent.
The minister said, now a claim for benefits can be filed after 30 days of employment. Earlier it was possible to do it after 90 days. Now employees can claim themselves, whereas earlier they had to apply through the employer. Gangwar is also the Chairman of the ESIC Board. He appealed to the people coming under the purview of the scheme to take advantage of it.
About 40 lakh industrial workers are expected to benefit from this decision taken in the meeting of ESIC Board on Thursday. The ESIC Board has approved increasing the payment under unemployment benefits under the Atal Insured Person Welfare Scheme and relaxed the eligibility criteria.
