Big relief to pensioners! Supreme Court orders the government, arrears will be paid by March 15, huge amount will come in the account

A bench of Chief Justice DY Chandrachud and Justice PS Narasimha directed the Center that all pensioners of the security forces should be paid their dues and there should be no further delay.

Apart from this, the Supreme Court has also given exemption to the Ex-Servicemen Association that If he is not satisfied with the payment of the dues of the Central Government, then he can apply again in the Supreme Court.

One Rank One Pension: There is a latest update for lakhs of pensioners of the country. The Supreme Court has given a big relief to the eligible pensioners of the armed forces. The Supreme Court gave the Center time till March 15, 2023, to pay dues under the ‘One Rank-One Pension’ (OROP) scheme to all eligible pensioners. The court has directed the central government to pay arrears to all eligible pensioners of the security forces by March 15.

In fact, the bench of Chief Justice DY Chandrachud and Justice PS Narasimha directed the Center that all pensioners of the security forces should be paid their dues and there should be no delay in this. Apart from this, the Supreme Court also exempted the Ex-Servicemen Association. It is said that if he is not satisfied with the payment of the dues of the Central Government, then he can apply again in the Supreme Court.

Proposal will be sent to ministry for approval

On behalf of the Central Government, Attorney General R.K. Venkataramani appeared in the court and told that the Controller General of Defense Accounts has completed the tabulation process and soon it will be sent to the Ministry of Defense for approval and as per the schedule, from March 15, the balance money will be released into the pensioners’ accounts. Will start I am personally monitoring the matter and it will be paid soon, there are 25 lakh pensioners, the list has come to the ministry for final screening and it is with the finance branch of the defense ministry.

Amendment in OROP, 25 lakh will get benefit
Earlier, the Central Government has sought 3 months time from the Supreme Court to pay the dues of One Rank One Pension. The Center had filed a petition in the Supreme Court seeking extension of time till March 15, 2023, for payment of ‘One Rank-One Pension’ (OROP) scheme dues to all eligible pensioners of the armed forces. Recently, the Union Cabinet had revised the One Rank One Pension Scheme. Earlier 20.60 lakh pensioners used to get benefit in this scheme, but now after amendment 25 lakh will get its benefit, this decision of the government will also put a burden of 8500 crores on the revenue.
