BJP now is the largest party in Rajya Sabha: Overtakes Congress by 1 member

NEW DELHI: The BJP few days back left behind the Congress to become India’s largest political party in the Rajya Sabha, with 58 members against 57 of the main opposition party.

BJP MP Sampatiya Uikey, who was elected to the Upper House following a bypoll in Madhya Pradesh took oath today.

Because of the death of Anil Madhav Dave – then Union Minister, his election was required.

This is the first time that the saffron party has become the number one formation in the RS after the Narendra Modi government came to power in May 2014.

However, the BJP led NDA which was short of a crucial majority shown some improvement in its numbers after JD (U) joined the ruling block.
