How much can the cover increase?
The government can increase the insurance cover of PMJAY in the budget. In the budget to be presented on February 1, 2024, the insurance cover of PMJAY can be increased from Rs 5 lakh to Rs 10-15 lakh.
Also, consideration can be given to increasing the health cover of about 60 crore people in the scheme. According to the government, increasing the cover will not increase the expenditure much. Apart from this, consideration can also be given to bringing subsidized health insurance for the middle class.
What is PMJAY?
The Modi government had announced Ayushman Bharat in Budget 2018, with two main goals – to create one lakh health and wellness centers in the country and to connect 10 crore families with a health insurance cover of Rs 5 lakh per year.
