But one question that may come in the mind of many people is what is the minimum age limit for the unique Aadhaar identification number issued by UIDAI? Can Aadhar card be made for children also? The answer is yes and now it has become very important for children to have Aadhaar.
From getting admission in school and availing benefits of any government scheme for children to getting a passport, having Aadhaar is important. So, is there any age limit for this?
According to UIDAI, there is no minimum age limit for getting Aadhaar card. This means that you can make Aadhar card even for a newborn baby. No fee is charged for making Aadhaar card for children below 5 years of age.
How will Aadhaar card of children be made?
Many hospitals have started enrolling new born babies for Aadhaar and they provide Aadhaar acknowledgment slip along with birth certificate these days. At the same time, Aadhaar card can be made for all children below the age of 5 including newborns.
These Aadhaar cards are blue in color and are also called child Aadhaar cards. No biometric is captured for the child’s Aadhaar. Only the photo of the child is taken for Aadhaar.
At the same time, it is mandatory to provide Aadhaar of one of the parents. If both the parents do not have Aadhaar, they will have to get enrolled for Aadhaar first.

- Visit the nearest Aadhaar Enrollment Center (You can also locate the nearest Enrollment Center online)
- Fill the Aadhaar enrollment form by mentioning your Aadhaar number on it.
- For enrollment of children below 5 years of age, either of the parents will have to provide Aadhaar details.
- Address and other demographic details will be filled from the Aadhaar of the parents.
- Submit a copy of the birth certificate/discharge certificate from the child’s hospital.
- The Aadhaar executive will hand over an acknowledgment slip containing the enrollment number. You can check the status of Aadhaar using enrollment number.
