Current Ticket: Lakhs of people working in big cities are preparing to go home on Diwali and Chhath. In such a situation, there is a huge rush for tickets in trains. There is a long waiting list in trains. In such a situation, people are hoping to get tickets in Tatkal. But getting a Tatkal ticket is also not easy. Hundreds of people stand in queue for a few tickets. When you do not get tickets in both waiting and Tatkal, then one more option is left for you. The option of current ticket. Let’s know what it is and how to get it.
What is a current ticket?
You can book a current ticket through IRCTC’s app and website. Railways opens train ticket booking 60 days before the scheduled date of the train. Then, Tatkal quota ticket booking opens a day before the date of the train. Tatkal tickets can be booked from 10:00 am for AC class (2A/3A/CC/EC/3E) and from 11:00 am for non-AC class (SL/FC/2S). If you miss both general and tatkal tickets, you can try the current ticket system. According to the IRCTC website, “Current booking is the booking of vacant seats after charting.” Current booking is allowed within the current booking time limit specified by the railways after charting. Usually, charts are prepared about four hours before the scheduled departure time of the train.
How to book a current ticket?
Step 1. Open the IRCTC app. Log in using your credentials.
Step 2. Click on the ‘Trains’ button and type in your destination and source station.
Step 3. Since this is a current ticket booking, the travel date should be the day you are booking the ticket. For example, today is October 13, 2024, so your journey start date will be the same. Once you have selected the source, destination and departure dates, click on the ‘Search Trains’ button.
Step 4. A list of all available trains on the selected route will appear on the screen. Click on your preferred class of ticket- CC, EC, 3AC, 3E etc. If a current ticket is available for the selected train, it will show as ‘CURR_AVBL-‘. Book your ticket here. There are more chances of getting a current ticket on less used routes than on routes with heavy passenger demand.
