Delhi Metro: There is good news for the passengers traveling on the three busy corridors of Delhi Metro, Red, Yellow and Blue Line. Automatic fare collection gates will be increased. This decision has been taken by DMRC regarding the increasing number of passengers in the metro day by day. There is a 393 km network of metro in NCR and 3184 AFC gates have been installed at these stations.

Automatic Fare Collection (AFC) gates will be increased on the three busy corridors of Delhi Metro, Red, Yellow and Blue Line. Due to this, Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has started the tender process to buy new AFC gates.

After the tender allocation, additional AFC gates will be installed at the stations of these three corridors in a phased manner in one year. This will increase the AFC gates by eight percent. This will provide relief to the passengers from the crowd.

Number of passengers increased in metro

At present, the total network of metro in NCR is 393 km and 3184 AFC gates have been installed at the stations. These days the number of passengers in the metro has increased. Due to this, a record number of passengers have travelled in the metro in the last two months.

According to DMRC, there have been 19 days so far this year when the passenger journey in the metro was more than 70 lakh. Out of this, 17 days are included in August and this month of September. The maximum number of passengers travelled in the metro on 20 August. Then the passenger journey was the highest at 77.49 lakh.

These three lines of Delhi Metro are the busiest

The maximum number of passengers travel in the Yellow Line (Samaypur Badli-Millennium City Center Gurugram) metro. After this, the Blue Line (Dwarka Sector 21-Electronic City / Vaishali) is the second and the Red Line (Rithala- New Bus Adda Ghaziabad) is the third busiest corridor.

Due to the increase in the number of passengers, the problem of crowd near the exit AFC gates of many stations has increased. After getting off the metro train, when the passengers reach the AFC gate, they have to stand in a queue to exit through the AFC gate. In view of this, an initiative has been taken to install additional AFC gates.
