The people of Delhi are going to get the gift of two new metro corridors by 2028. The process of statutory approval for land acquisition and other necessary permissions for construction related to the metro project has been started. Under Phase 4, approval has already been received to start the metro project between Lajpat Nagar to Saket G Block and Indralok to Indraprastha, which are extensions of the Golden and Green lines.
In March, the Union Cabinet approved these projects. According to the information, the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation is currently processing for statutory approvals including land acquisition and forest clearance requirements from the Delhi Development Authority, Central Public Works Department and PWD. The construction work of these two sections is likely to start in a few months.
Operations will begin by 2028
According to the information, further processes related to planning and tendering for civil works are being done before proceeding with specific contracts for track laying, electricity lines, signaling and other technical components. Both corridors are targeted to be completed by 2028.
8 interchange stations will be built in the corridor
With a length of 12.4 km, the Indralok-Indraprastha corridor will have 10 stations. The length of the Lajpat Nagar-Saket G Block corridor will be 8.4 km and eight more stations will be built in it. 8 interchange stations will also be built in these two corridors. Interchange stations will be built at Indralok, Nabi Karim, New Delhi, Delhi Gate and Indraprastha in the Indralok-Indraprastha corridor.
At the same time, there is a plan to build interchange stations at Lajpat Nagar, Chirag Delhi and Saket G Block on the Lajpat Nagar-Saket G Block route. Delhi Metro has 29 existing interchange stations, which came up in Phases I, II and III. However, additional 11 interchange stations are being constructed under the three priority corridors of Phase 4. Since the new corridor will have eight interchange stations, the total number of interchange stations will increase to 48.
