Delhi NCR 1 October Changes: There is going to be a big change for Delhi-NCR very soon. Diesel generators are going to be banned after two days i.e. from 1st October.
Diesel generator (DG) sets with capacity above 19 kW will be allowed to operate in the National Capital Region (NCR) only if they are retrofitted with Emission Control Devices (ECDs) or dual fuel kits. However, the changes made in the rules by the Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) have increased the concern of the city residents.
Environmentalists and Resident Welfare Associations (RWAs) in Delhi have largely welcomed the move, but residents of cities like Gurugram and Noida, where power problems are frequent, said the decision will lead to many difficulties. He also said that it would cost a lot to retrofit the DG sets as per the government’s requirements.
It was told that a 600 kW DG set of a dual fuel setup can cost up to ₹ 10 lakh. The members of the apartment association said that we are not in a position to bear this much expense ourselves.
What are the new rules?
The new rules were first announced on June 8. Under this, it was said that industries, commercial buildings and residential setups have time till September 30 to complete retrofitting of their DG sets. Let us tell you that the Graded Response Action Plan (Grap) comes into effect every year from October 1, whose task is to deal with air pollution.
