Demand to increase from 58 years to 60 years
In fact, on the appeal of Joint Action Committee of Punjab Chandigarh College Teacher Union, Principal Association and Management Federation, teachers of Khalsa College and other colleges have taken out a fury march. In which the demand to increase the retirement age from 58 years to 60 years has intensified. The demand of the employees is that their retirement age should be increased by 2 years.

Along with this, a front has been opened by the teachers against the Punjab government. All unions have handed over a demand letter to ADC Harjot Kaur in the name of the Chief Minister. Teacher leaders say that reducing the retirement age of teachers from 60 to 58 years is a highly condemnable act. In such a situation, teachers have been insulted by the Punjab government.
Teachers will protest against the government by protesting
Teachers say that until their decision is not validated. This attitude towards teachers is very discriminatory. The government’s decision will also make the process of admission of students more difficult. The same teacher leaders say that if their demands are not met by the government, then the struggle will intensify and in the by-elections, the teacher class will protest against the government. Teachers say that the Grant in and Act 1979 has been violated by the government by reducing the age of retirement.
The same major decision has been taken by the Joint Action Committee representing more than 1200 staff of government aided college regarding the demand for increase in retirement age. Under which a march will be taken out towards the Punjab University campus in the PU Senate meeting on February 19. Along with this, the retirement age will be increased from 58 years to 60 years.
Preparation for movement on February 19
Earlier, on the lines of government teachers, the administration is going to demand to increase the retirement age of non-teaching staff from 58 years to 65 years. All the representations have been rejected. Rejecting the application, it has been said that Panjab University is the competent authority for this and not the administration.
A letter in this regard was issued from the office of Director of Higher Education Aman Singh Bhatti. At the same time, preparations have been made for the movement on a large scale on 19th February.
