At around 5 pm on Tuesday evening, the police had received information about an explosion near the Israel Embassy in Chanakyapuri. The unknown caller had told that there was an explosion on an empty plot behind the embassy. Bomb disposal squad and special police team were sent to the spot and search was conducted. Sources say that a typed letter addressed to the ambassador of the Israeli Embassy was found near the incident site. The flag was wrapped in this letter. Sources said that the letter talked about Israel’s action in Gaza and mentioned ‘revenge’. Delhi Police has started investigation into the blast.
Search operation launched in Chanakyapuri area’
Embassy spokesman Guy Neer said on Tuesday evening, “We can confirm that there was an explosion near the embassy at around 5:08 pm.” Delhi Police and security teams are still investigating the situation. No embassy employee was injured in this incident. The police conducted a long search in the area. A letter wrapped in an Israeli flag was found near the blast site. Sources said that the one-page typed letter criticized Israel’s actions in Gaza. Revenge is also mentioned in it. The police have not given much information about the letter.
‘Evidence sent for forensic investigation’
Delhi Police said in a statement, experts have investigated the incident site and collected evidence which may have evidentiary relevance. These are being sent for forensic investigation. No trace of burnt explosive was found at the scene. According to the report of news agency PTI, experts are not ruling out the possibility of chemical explosion. A team from anti-terrorism investigation agency National Investigation Agency (NIA) has also investigated the site. The Israeli Foreign Ministry has said that our officials are cooperating with their Indian counterparts to investigate the cause of the blast.
