Finance Ministry issued a statement
The Department of Economic Affairs, Ministry of Finance has issued this regulation through an e-Gazette notification issued on June 27, 2023. The Finance Ministry said in a statement on Friday that the move is aimed at helping increase the reach of the scheme to girls/women. In this way, membership of Mahila Samman Savings Certificate Scheme can now be taken in eligible scheduled banks along with post offices.
The central government had announced in the budget
This scheme, started to encourage savings among women, is applicable from April 1, 2023, through the Department of Posts. In the general budget of the financial year 2023-24, the Central Government had announced the Mahila Samman Savings Certificate 2023 scheme to provide financial security to every girl and woman of the country.

Under this scheme, interest will be given at the rate of 7.5 percent per annum on the deposited amount, which will be added on quarterly basis. In this way the effective interest rate will be around 7.7 percent.

Any amount in multiples of 100 can be deposited within the limit of minimum Rs.1000 and maximum Rs.2 lakh. The maturity of investment under this scheme is two years from the date of account opening under the scheme. Under this scheme, the account can be opened for a period of two years on or before March 31, 2025.
