Before 2014, people were not able to get gas connections. Even if a connection was available, one had to stand in a long queue for the cylinder. Many times the situations became such that the police had to resort to lathicharge.

For the first time, 9 crore 60 lakh families in the country got free gas connections. About 50 crore people benefited from this. Prime Minister Modi has given a separate gift of Rs 300 subsidy to LPG beneficiaries.

After the beneficiaries of ‘Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana’ got a subsidy of Rs 300 per cylinder, the price in Delhi has come down to Rs 603. It is being claimed in media reports that in the coming time, the government may further increase the gas subsidy for the beneficiaries of Ujjwala scheme before the Lok Sabha elections. After this, gas cylinders are expected to become even cheaper.
