The Haryana government has taken a big decision regarding professors in universities and colleges. The state government has made changes in the rules for the appointment and promotion of professors. Under this, in place of 7 increments on getting MPhil and PhD, interview will be held before promotion to every post.
The most important thing in this is that only those professors of colleges will be able to apply directly for the post of professors in universities, who will have experience of guiding students. From Assistant Professor to Associate Professor, PHD will be mandatory. The Principal Secretary, Higher Education Department has issued a notification in this regard on November 11. The protest started as soon as the notification was issued.
Professors of universities and colleges have demanded a fresh notification on the basis of the UGC Act-2018. They say that the UGC has made a provision to raise the retirement age of the professor to 65 years, but the state government kept it only 58 years. Retired professors, principals or professors will be given re-appointment after 58 years till 65 years.
