Google has reduces its top management roles by 10% with layoffs, says CEO Sundar Pichai

Tech company Google has laid off its employees several times and thousands of Google employees have lost their jobs in the last few years. Now CEO Sundar Pichai has said that about 10 percent of the top management has been reduced.

Google, one of the world’s largest tech companies, has laid off about 10 percent of the employees working in top management. The company has made several job-cuts in the year 2024 and laid off many employees. According to a report by Business Insider, in the all-hands meeting held this week, CEO Sundar Pichai also said the same thing to the employees and told that Google has cut its team.

During the meeting, Sundar Pichai said that Google has made major changes in the last year, which aim to make the company simpler and more efficient than before. This report has been given quoting two Google employees who were part of this meeting. Citing sources, the publication has reported that the company has cut up to 10 percent in roles like manager, director and vice presidents.

Google spokesperson has said that some of these employees who were part of the top management were sent to non-managerial positions and the rest were fired from the company.

Thousands of employees lost their jobs simultaneously

Let us remind you that Pichai had announced the biggest layoff in September 2022 with the aim of making Google 20 percent efficient and in January 2023, about 12 thousand employees were laid off simultaneously. Google’s parent company Alphabet had said that it is reducing about 6 percent of its global workforce. In an open letter shared by Google, Pichai had said that the company had done hiring under different circumstances and now the situation has changed.

Similarly, Pichai had also mentioned the layoff while sending a memo in January 2024, but in the year 2024, thousands of jobs were not lost simultaneously like the previous year. Once again Pichai has talked about layoffs, so speculations are also being made about reduction in the existing workforce.

In fact, companies working on generative AI tools like OpenAI have posed a challenge for Google. This is the reason why Google is now focusing on AI and the need for those employees is ending who were working on old projects which are being closed.
