A serious warning has been issued for iPhone and iPad users in India, and they have been asked to update the device immediately. This warning has been issued by the government agency CERT-In.
A ‘critical’ level warning has been issued by the Indian Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT-In), a cyber security agency associated with the Government of India. This warning has been given to iPhone, iPad and Mac users using Apple products in India. CERT-In, associated with the Ministry of Electronics and IT, has said that due to some existing flaws, hackers can not only get access to these devices, but they can also steal sensitive information.
The agency has clarified that devices running on old software versions are in great danger. Users have been asked to immediately update their iPhone, iPad and Mac to the latest version. Apple keeps fixing old existing bugs in new updates and their flaws are removed. In such a situation, keeping your device updated is a wise decision. Apart from this, keep removing those softwares from your system which you do not use.
Here is the list of affected Apple devices
You can see below the list of devices that CERT-In has reported to be affected due to the flaws.
- iOS and iPadOS versions older than 17.6 and 16.7.9 (iPhones and iPads)
- Sonoma versions older than 14.6 (Macs)
- macOS Ventura versions older than 13.6.8 (Macs)
- macOS Monterey versions older than 12.7.6 (Macs)
- watchOS versions older than 10.6 (Apple Watch)
- tvOS versions older than 17.6 (Apple TV)
- visionOS versions older than 1.3 (Vision Pro)
- Safari versions older than 17.6 (iPhone, iPad, Mac, Vision Pro)
If you have already updated these devices to the latest version, then there is no need to worry. Apple has fixed the existing flaws with the latest security update. However, if you have not installed the latest version yet, then update your device immediately by going to Settings.
Apple users also warned of spyware attack
The California tech company is also warning its users of mercenary spyware attacks. High-profile users like politicians, journalists and government employees are being targeted by this attack. Apple itself has asked users to be cautious in more than 150 countries including India.
Apple has said that in case of falling prey to this malware, users will be sent a notification and they will be able to access the device in lockdown mode. This will be done so that the attacker cannot steal data and the device can be protected from major cyber attacks.
