The government is about to end the FASTag system for tax collection at toll plazas . Instead, there is a preparation to bring a hi-tech system which will work faster and more accurately than FASTag. This new system will be based on the Satellite Navigation System . According to sources, work has started on the new system and its pilot project has also been launched. As soon as it gets the green signal, the work of toll collection from the navigation system will be started in place of FASTag . In the new system, toll tax will be charged on the basis of kilometer or distance covered.

ITR Filing Last Date: From August 1, there will be such a fine for filing ITR, free chance till July 31! hurry up

At present, there is a rule to deduct toll tax once in FASTag. If a vehicle ply on a highway, a certain amount is deducted from the FASTag account at the toll plaza. This amount has nothing to do with the distance or kilometers traveled. In the navigation system, money will be charged on the basis of kilometer. In the new system, toll tax will have to be paid for the number of kilometers traveled on the highway or expressway.

The testing of the pilot project of the new toll tax is going on. The system of toll collection by kilometer has been successful in European countries. In India too, preparations are being made to implement it on the same lines. At present, FASTag is charged the entire toll between one toll to another, even if you are covering only half the distance, but you have to pay for the entire distance. This makes the toll expensive. This system is applicable in Germany. There, in about 99 percent of the vehicles, toll is collected from the navigation system itself.

What will happen in the new system

As soon as the train starts running on any highway or expressway, its toll meter will be turned on. After finishing its journey, as soon as the vehicle lands on the slip road or any normal road from the highway, the navigation system will deduct money according to the distance covered. This new system will also be like FASTag, but the money will be as much as the distance will be decided. At present, FASTag is installed in about 97 percent of the vehicles in India, due to which toll collection is done.

Preparations for the new system are underway. The transport policy will have to be changed before the system is implemented. For this all necessary steps are being considered. Soon the government can make some announcement in this regard. Under its pilot project, 1.37 lakh vehicles have covered the navigation system in the country. Experts from Russia and South Korea are working on a study report. This report will be made public soon.
